Finwë. Some kings are remembered for how they ruled. Finwë is remembered for how he died, and for everything his death set in motion. He was the first High King of the Noldor, one of the three leaders who woke at the waters of the world's beginning, before the sun, before the moon, when the only light in the sky was starlight. He led his people over the sea to Valinor, the Blessed Realm, and there the Noldor became the greatest and most gifted people the world had ever seen. Finwë ruled over all of it. He had everything an immortal king could want. And then he lost the one thing that could break him. His first wife was Míriel, and bearing their son drained something out of her that never returned, until she laid down her body and let her spirit depart forever.
