99 Days Before This Peregrine Falcon Becomes a 300 km/h Hunter follows the extraordinary transformation of one Peregrine Falcon from a fragile egg to a young hunter of the open sky. High on a narrow cliff ledge, a pair of Peregrine Falcons begins raising the next generation. There is no deep nest and no safe ground below. The eggs rest among stone and gravel, exposed to mountain winds and sudden changes in weather. For almost a month, the parents take turns protecting the eggs while the other leaves the cliff to hunt. Then the first crack appears. A tiny Peregrine Falcon finally emerges from the shell. It is small, covered in pale down and completely dependent on its parents. It cannot hunt. It cannot escape. And it cannot fly. But that will change quickly. As the young falcon grows, dark flight feathers begin replacing its soft white down. Its wings become larger, its legs become stronger and the small nesting ledge begins to feel dangerously narrow. Soon, the cliff that once protected the chick presents the greatest challenge of its young life. The first flight. For a moment, the young Peregrine appears to fall. Then its wings catch the air. But learning to fly is only the beginning. The juvenile must still learn how to turn, land, gain altitude and follow its parents through the valley. Every mistake becomes part of its training. And hunting is even harder. A Peregrine Falcon may be built for extraordinary speed, but speed alone cannot catch prey. The young bird must learn timing, distance, control and when to attack. Its first serious dive ends in failure. The prey escapes. So the young falcon climbs again. This time, everything it has learned since leaving the egg will be tested in only a few seconds. 🐣 In this episode from Animal Life Journey, you will discover: • How Peregrine Falcons raise their chicks on exposed cliff ledges • How the parents protect and feed a newly hatched chick • How a Peregrine Falcon changes as its flight feathers develop • How a young falcon prepares for its first flight • Why leaving the cliff is only the beginning of its training • How juvenile Peregrines learn to control speed and direction • Why the first hunting attempts often fail • How height and gravity help a Peregrine Falcon attack from above • How one helpless chick begins becoming a hunter of the open sky By the end of its first ninety-nine days, almost everything has changed. The fragile egg is gone. The helpless chick is gone. Even the nervous fledgling that once stood at the cliff edge has disappeared. In its place is a young Peregrine Falcon beginning the life of one of the most remarkable aerial hunters in nature. Its fastest dives and most difficult hunts may still lie ahead. But it has already learned the most important lesson of all. How to turn a fall into flight. And how to turn flight into a hunt. This cinematic wildlife documentary is created for education, storytelling and appreciation of the natural world. Dangerous hunting moments are presented in a family-friendly documentary style without graphic violence.
