Ex-Warrant Officer Class One (WO1) Joseph Ashitey Hammond looks back with pride after serving society for decades as a soldier. He was a brave heart who was ready to risk his life in the fight for justice and in defense of his creed, even if faced with the difficult choice of killing is own mother if instructed to. Old soldier's, they say, never dies and so has been for 95-years-old WO1 Hammond, a member of the Gold Coast Regiment who is currently the only known survivor of the historic 28th February crossroad incident that claimed the lives of Sergeant Adjetey, Corporal Attipoe, and Private Odartey Lamptey -- a landmark moment in Ghana/Africa's struggle for independence.
