I just got done reading a certain report published by Rupert Lowe and it, and a lot of other related things, inspired me to make this song. Full Lyrics: [Verse 1] I once learned to love my country Hand on my heart, eyes up To be proud when I hear our anthem Back when these words were enough Now the gate swings wide for strangers While our people wait in line And if I ask who's counting me They say, sit down, you're out of time [Pre-Chorus] They call it kindness They call it clean But do they really think We can't see? [Chorus] Can I still love my country? When it turns on me? Can I raise our flag? When you slander me? I want to stand tall I want to believe But you broke the deal And you blame me You blame me [Verse 2] You shut the room when we speak up Hide behind the safest words Any hard question gets branded Before the answer's ever heard You say it's for the kids now While the worst thing slips right by Too scared to name what cuts them So the truth just passes by [Pre-Chorus] You protect the criminals While locking up your own You demonize your people Then ask why I want more [Chorus] Can I still love my country? When it turns on me? Can I raise our flag? When you slander me? I want to stand tall I want to believe But you broke the deal And you blame me You blame me [Bridge] I don't want a perfect story I want my voice in the light I want the right to disagree Without you making it a crime I want the truth for every child Not just the one you choose to name I want a country I can trust Not one that does nothing but blame [Final Chorus] Can I still love my country? When it turns on me? Can I raise our flag? When you slander me? I want to stand tall I want to believe But you broke the deal And you blame me You blame me Made with the help of suno.
