Explore the full collection of handmade historical monument lanterns on my Etsy shop: 👉 https://etsy.com/shop/LulisLanterns Welcome to my maker journey. In this video, I share my complete design and crafting process for creating a wooden laser-cut lantern based on the historic Eşrefoğlu Mosque (built in Türkiye starting in 1297 AD). This is not a step-by-step tutorial, but rather a look into how I translate ancient, intricate architectural art into modern woodcraft using open-source tools like FreeCAD and precision laser cutting. 📐 Project Blueprint & Workflow: • Line drawings sourced from "Islamic Geometric Patterns" by Eric Broug. • Base pattern geometry mapped using FreeCAD's Sketcher workbench. • Hexagonal tiling and interlacing vector thickness generated via a custom Python script utilizing FreeCAD's API. • Color coding and sheet nesting finalized in Inkscape. • G-code processed via LaserGRBL and sent to a Longer laser cutter. • Final assembly lined with mulberry paper diffused by a flickering LED tealight. If you enjoyed watching this process as much as I enjoyed making it, please consider liking the video and subscribing to follow along with my future builds. 🎵 Background Audio Attributed Via Internet Archive: "J.S.
