Move files between a VirtualBox host and guest using a GitHub Gist as a bidirectional clipboard — no Guest Additions required. This is one of three ways to move files to a VM guest covered on this channel, alongside the virtual optical drive and Shared Folders.
In this exercise, we use Gist to move code from a host to a VM guest, and then use the same Gist to move logging information from the guest back to the host. We log into GitHub Gist from both sides, create a clipboard Gist on the host, open it on the guest, run the code, copy the console log, paste it back into the Gist, and refresh on the host to retrieve it — demonstrating a full round trip through a single shared URL.
Chapters:
2:45 Log into GitHub Gist from both host and guest
2:55 Create a clipboard Gist on the host, paste the code, and save
4:45 Open Gist on the guest and open the clipboard (URL is gist.githubusercontent.com)
5:30 Copy code from the clipboard, run it, copy the console log
10:30 Paste the log into the clipboard Gist and save
11:10 Refresh the clipboard on the host to access the log
