In this video we are going to go over the brand new RevoPoint Miraco 3d Scanner. This is part of a kickstarter campaign launching October 25th at 9:00 PM UTC+8 . The kickstarter campaign has concluded so links are replaced. LEAD is a Revopoint Affiliate so purchasing through our link will directly support the channel.
This new scanner represents a handful of amazing advancements in the consumer 3D Scanning market.
1. It is a self contained unit. Everything you need to scan is in your hands. No laptop, no screen mirror to a cell phone.
2. You can process points and mesh directly on the unit. With its large touch screen and integrated Revoscan software you can manipulate your scans just like you would on a laptop.
3. Dual modes. This 3D Scanner has a near and far mode and also includes a 48 megapx RGB camera for color and texture.
Those 3 points together make this something special. I have been impressed with the Miraco and how fast it was able to capture car scans.

If you want to see some outputs from the scanner below are some Fusion 360 links with mesh files captured from the Miraco.
Here was a quick color scan of a TLD bike helmet with minimal processing.

Here are a couple of different scans of a section of the car fender. These were all done with feature alignment and each has slightly different processing settings in RevoScan. I changed up how much i processed the points vs processing the mesh.

In general I found the Near Mode with feature tracking seemed to work the best. Marker tracking using a magic mat worked pretty well for things like the bike helmet. Marker tracking on larger objects was a little trickier because of the scanner angle relative to the dots. The scanner was sensitive to light. When I tried to scan with the photo light panels on it had more difficulty with lighter objects than when the lights were off. I think you should consider what you need a scanner for and how often you will be using it. The portability of this unit (for me) is the main benefit.
I will be following this video up with some more content using the Miraco where we talk more about the processing in RevoScan and work on designing a part.
