In early 1964, just before Bandstand was to leave for California, these were the doings on the dance floor at Studio B, 46th and Market, Philadelphia, Pennslvania USA.
The Fast Dance and The Stomp had taken on another spin but unmistakingly had its light and lilting Philadlephia charm; though it wasn't the flaying of hands and kicks of the Charleston which seems to be the memory of a few today. This is closer to the real deal.
The second American Bandstand Regular (Danny Kelly) and the male teen third behind him moving the the rear are pretty close and the girl he is dancing with is STOMPING. On the orginal tape Dick Clark introduces this a dance from a couple of years prior.
More to come as we return specifically to The Bristol Stomp (Though you can see it done by a few including Danny Kelly here) and The Slop and The Strand done by famed American Bandstand Regulars Jimmy Peatross and Joan Buck. Stay tuned as the documentation of the Philadelphia American Bandstand style continues here at Bandstand's Best YouTube channel.
