Four years ago a doctor told me my left arm might never work again.
Last week I rode 150 km with one hand.
I have a brachial plexus injury — the nerves running from my spine to my left
hand are damaged. There is no surgery that fixes it and no date on the calendar
for when it comes back. For four years the bike sat parked. And it wasn't the
arm that kept me off it — it was the story I'd started telling myself about
what I was still allowed to do.
This is the video of the day I got back on.
What it taught me, in one line: the ride was never the point. Getting on the
bike on an ordinary morning was. If you're stuck in the part of your life that
looks permanent, you don't need a miracle or a big dramatic comeback — you need
one normal day where you do the small version of the thing.
Next video: 300 km. I genuinely don't know if my arm holds for that. Subscribe
if you want to watch me find out.
Riding one-handed is my own limit, not advice. If you're dealing with an injury,
talk to your own doctor and physio before you copy anything I do.
