Exhibitions include agriculture and livestock, and horse events. Entertainment and sideshows are also included over the three days of the event. The Royal Darwin Show is the Northern Territory's largest and oldest community event, attracting around 50,000 showgoers annually. This year, the Show will celebrate the rich Chinese heritage of the Northern Territory through the theme 'Year of the Dragon' on July 25,26 &27. There are thousands of competitions to enter that showcase the talents of the community, with the opportunity to win prestigious Royal Show awards and prize money. Horse riding to cooking, arts and crafts to plants and local produce, poultry, dogs, cats, goats, and so much more. There are also uniquely Territorian categories, like the best homemade fishing lure and traditional spear throwing! The Royal Agricultural Society The Royal Agricultural Society has a 21 member Council. The Full Council is responsible for the organisation of the annual Darwin Show through its committees. The Board of Management has responsibility for overall management of the Showgrounds & Exhibition Centre. History and Aims In 1951 a very successful Exhibition was presented by the Maranga and District Progress Association – this became the first Darwin Show. Later that year THE NORTH AUSTRALIAN SHOW SOCIETY INC was formed and in 1952 staged the first Darwin Show held on its present site. CHAINSAW SCULPTING AT ITS BEST You’ll be amazed by the master skills and speed of Rob Bast. Rob is a full time sculptor from Victoria who works mainly with wood and steel but has also carved ice and stone. Rob has won many awards during his Chainsaw Carving Career in both Canada and Germany where two of the biggest chainsaw carving competitions in the world are held. Chainsaw sculpting Rob was awarded first place with his piece called ‘The Man from Snowy River’ in the Australian Chainsaw Carving Championships held in January 2017. Come down and see Rob’s carving action over the three days at the Show. Rob will be situated on the southern side of the main arena and sculpting throughout the show. AMAZING SAND SCULPTURE! Dennis Massoud – Master Sculptor in Sand Sand sculpture is a rare and intricate art form that takes sand and water and breathes it to life with seemingly impossible beauty. Sand In Your Eyes is the longest running Australian sand sculpting company. It was formed by Master sculptor Dennis Massoud more than 20 years ago. The Sand In Your Eyes team are all master sand sculptors and world champions in their field who have experience in a large number of events held across Australia and overseas.
