His passion and commitment to excellence never waned throughout his legendary career. Known as “Mr. Wackerman” he taught all over Orange County providing musical inspiration to thousands of students in grades 3 through 12. In 1957 he was hired by the Seal Beach School District, which later unified with Los Alamitos, to teach at McGaugh Elementary. He quickly became a beloved colleague and a renowned music educator in the community. Chuck was instrumental in the establishment of the jazz program at OCSA, where he originated the curriculum as the school’s first jazz band director. After 59 years teaching in the Los Alamitos School District, he returned to OCSA to teach in the Garn Family Jazz Studies Program from 2016-2020. With his inspirational teaching and strong motivation, he led his bands to countless wins at jazz festivals throughout the years. Chuck was married to Barbara Anne (Coleman) Wackerman for over 50 years and they had four sons who have all risen to the top of the music industry. He made an immeasurable impact on his students through his patience, kindness, and dedication. He had an ability to see potential in every student even when they didn’t recognize it in themselves. ___________ CHUCK’S ALL STAR BAND Saxophones | Sal Lozano, Rusty Higgins, Tom Kubis, Gordon Goodwin, Brian Williams Trombones | Andy Martin, Charlie Morillas, Alex Iles, Rich Bullock Trumpets | Wayne Bergeron, Dan Fornero, Jeff Bunnell, John Reynolds, Mike Plumleigh Piano | Tom Ranier Guitar | Mike Higgins Bass | Bob Wackerman Drums | Chad Wackerman, John Wackerman, Brooks Wackerman, James Wackerman Percussion | Steve Fisher Vocals | Sophia Wackerman, Madison Wackerman, Jammond McCoy, Chuck Wackerman Honors Combo | Nathan Tatsuta (Piano), Nicholas Doan (Bass), Danny Lee (Drums) Featured Introductions | Gordon Goodwin, Wayne Bergeron, Mallory Wackerman, Cash & Miles Wackerman, Tom Kubis Music recorded and mixed | Joe Pileggi Cameras | Evan Guyer and Sonya Bangston Video Editor | Sonya Bangston Live Audio Mixer | Dan Sharp ___________ PROGRAM Documentary Video Created by Gilbert Salas, Edited by Jaki Covington There Will Never Be Another You Arranged by Nathan Tatsuta (student of Chuck) Performed by OCSA’s Chuck Wackerman Honors Combo Birdland From the Maynard Ferguson Band Space Available From the Bill Watrous Band Hit the Ground Running From Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band Almost Like Being in Love Chuck’s Frank Sinatra favorite, arranged by Tom Kubis You Go To My Head From the Wayne Bergeron Band Vibes for Chuck Vibraphone performance by John Wackerman It Don’t Mean A Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing) From the Duke Ellington Band, arranged by Tom Kubis For Barbara Dedicated to Barbara Wackerman, composed by Tom Kubis Hey Chuck Dedicated to Chuck Wackerman, composed by Tom Kubis Straight No Chaser From the Buddy Rich Band ___________ Stay in touch with Drum Channel! 📕 Facebook –   / drumchannel   📸 Instagram –   / drumchannel   🐦 Twitter –   / drumchannel   Get better faster with our Practice Assist Metronome™! http://www.drumchannel.com/practice-a...
