The ebook behind this story, Who Actually Got Paid: https://publy.store/p/therockeconomy/... Who gets paid when the Misfits' Crimson Ghost skull sells? A federal judge read the Danzig and Jerry Only deal as giving neither man any obligation to account to the other for revenues, and what the skull earns has never been published. The skull on a Misfits shirt began as a costume. It is the villain's face from The Crimson Ghost, a 1946 Republic Pictures serial, and the band did not create it. Glenn Danzig and Jerry Only built a label and a fan club out of Lodi, New Jersey, put the face on their T-shirts, and watched the band end in 1983. A 1992 suit and a 1994 settlement then left the two men sharing the Misfits marks, each free to merchandise without the other's consent. Danzig's 2014 suit over Hot Topic and other merchandise deals ended with Judge Gary Klausner's dismissal, quoted by Ultimate Classic Rock. The band's own company later sued the publisher Abrams over the skull on a book cover, then dropped it. The reunion that followed rests on a reported, unsigned draft that splits proceeds fifty-fifty after expenses. The only reunion money figures we found are two ticket grosses, Newark in 2018 and Madison Square Garden in 2019, and neither is anyone's pay. This documentary-style explainer separates what is documented from what is disputed, from what is only a reported draft, and from what was never published, including whether the serial ever entered the public domain.
