We break down in Brunswick GA and are faced with a $3,500 Tow! Full time RV Travel with Barb & Mike.
We are Barb & Mike and we retired early to travel full time in our 30 foot 5th wheel trailer. We are sharing our experiences with our family and friends and every is invited to come join us every week as we explore new places. We have no idea where this journey will take us but we know it will be a lot of fun figuring that out.
Brunswick is a city on the southeast coast of Georgia. It’s known for its Victorian-era Old Town Historic District and the huge, centuries-old Lover’s Oak tree. Causeways link the city to the 4 barrier islands of the Golden Isles. Sea Island has resorts and golf clubs. St. Simons Island is home to Fort Frederica National Monument, the preserved remains of an 18th-century stronghold, and St. Simons Lighthouse Museum.
It's a nice small city with great food and people. The location is good, because you are an hour and twenty minutes away from Jacksonville, Florida, as well as an hour and twenty minutes away from Savannah, Georgia. As far as jobs, there's pretty much the hospitality industry and restaurants.
St. Simons is an island off the Georgia coast. It’s known for its salt marshes and sandy stretches like East Beach. A museum traces the history of St. Simons Lighthouse, rebuilt in 1872 after it was destroyed in the Civil War. Anglers fish off nearby St. Simons Pier, which offers views of Jekyll Island and migrating whales. North, boats travel to Little St. Simons Island, home to birds like spoonbills and gannets.
Fort Frederica National Monument, on St. Simons Island, Georgia, preserves the archaeological remnants of a fort and town built by James Oglethorpe between 1736 and 1748 to protect the southern boundary of the British colony of Georgia from Spanish raids. About 630 British troops were stationed at the fort. A town of up to 500 colonial residents had grown up outside the fort; it was laid out following principles of the Oglethorpe Plan for towns in the Georgia Colony. The town was named Frederica, after Frederick, Prince of Wales, son of King George II. The monument was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on October 15, 1966.
Jekyll Island is located off the coast of the U.S. state of Georgia, in Glynn County. It is one of the Sea Islands and one of the Golden Isles of Georgia barrier islands. The island is owned by the State of Georgia and run by a self-sustaining, self-governing body.[
It was long used seasonally by indigenous peoples of the region. The Guale and the Mocama, the indigenous peoples of the area when Europeans first reached the area, were killed or forced to leave by the English of the Province of Carolina and their native allies, and by raids by French pirates. Plantations were developed on the island during the British colonial period. A few structures still standing are made of tabby, a coastal building material using crushed oyster shells. The island was developed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It was evacuated during World War II by order of the US government. In 1947 the state of Georgia acquired all the property, for security and preservation.
A popular tourist destination, the island has beaches frequented by vacationers. Guided tours of the Landmark Historic District are available. Bike trails, walks along the beaches and sandbars, and Summer Waves, a water park, are among the active attractions. The historic district features numerous impressive and ambitious buildings from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The island is also full of wildlife, consisting of many different mammals, reptiles, and birds living and breeding in the island's inland salt marshes. In 2018, Architectural Digest named Jekyll Island one of the 50 most beautiful small towns in America.
