Every professional interaction communicates more than words alone. This lesson explores how non-verbal communication influences understanding, trust and professionalism in the workplace. It introduces four key elements: posture, eye contact, facial expressions and active listening behaviours. You will learn how an open posture, natural eye contact and appropriate expressions can demonstrate confidence, attention and respect. The lesson also explains how to avoid distracting or closed-off behaviours, including excessive device use, folded arms and turning away from the speaker. Examples show why verbal and non-verbal signals must be aligned, particularly when giving feedback or working with colleagues, customers, volunteers and other stakeholders. You will also discover how active listening involves demonstrating genuine attention rather than simply hearing spoken words. Finally, the lesson highlights that these communication skills can be developed through self-awareness, observation and regular practice.
