📁 FUTURE TRIPPERS ARCHIVE 013 In the late summer of 1968, a Northern California underground band called The Hollow Current entered the abandoned Hush Harbor Boardwalk to record a midnight rehearsal beside the Pacific Ocean. The boardwalk had been closed for three years. Its arcade was empty. Its Ferris wheel had stopped above the fog. Its coastal stage had no electricity. And every public-address speaker along the wooden pier had been disconnected. At 12:07 AM, vocalist and rhythm guitarist Lena Vale began the first song. The entire boardwalk started broadcasting the performance. No transmitter could be found. After the first song, the abandoned arcade lights returned. After the third song, the Ferris wheel began turning by itself. After the fifth song, the empty stage lights moved across the boardwalk as though they were following an invisible crowd. By the eighth track, wet footprints appeared between the arcade and the shoreline—but no one could be seen making them. Lena later claimed that figures were standing beyond the stage lights. They wore clothes from different decades. Some appeared covered in seawater. All of them were facing the band. During the final song, every speaker along the coast joined the chorus with hundreds of unknown voices. When the last note ended, the boardwalk lights went dark at the same moment. By sunrise, The Hollow Current, their instruments and the entire recording setup had disappeared. Only five objects remained: A salt-damaged reel labeled “BOARDWALK FEED / 12:07 AM.” A torn concert poster. An amber pair of sunglasses. A blurred Polaroid of the empty Ferris wheel. And one brass arcade token covered in seawater.
