History of How 40hr Work Week Came About

Day 6 of 100 Days of Random Learning. Today I looked into where the 40 hour work week actually came from. Most of us just accepted it. You wake up, you work eight hours, five days, and you never really ask who decided that or why. It turns out somebody did decide it, and the reasoning behind it is not what you'd assume. What got me is that this thing we treat as the natural shape of a week is actually the result of a fight. It was argued over, resisted, and eventually won.
