WORKING DESCRIPTION: This is a fully working, fully shopped, Eight Ball pinball game. Some people call this game "Fonzie" for obvious reasons, although I don't think they got permission or ever gave Henry Winkler any money for using his likeness. Everything on the game is working perfectly. We tested every single switch, light bulb, solenoid, sound effect, display segment, etc. and everything is fully working. We installed new top-quality LED bulbs in the game so the lights are brighter, more colorful (tastefully), and should never burn out. Also, I installed a new Battery off the board for saving scores and settings, so there should be no problem with battery acid leakage in the future. Believe it or not, this game is running on all original boards and hardware. Well, except for the lamp driver board which was working perfectly, but must be replaced if you are going to use LED bulbs on an older Solid-state Bally pinball from this era. So we have the new LDB installed. And we replaced every bulb with a new top-quality LED. The game has a new ball and a lock. It plays great and is a fun game. This is a game that did not come with a "Free Play" setting, but what the previous owner did was remove the coin acceptance hardware and custom mount some switches on the back of the coin door, so that you don't need to drop coins or open the door and trigger switches in order to play in your home. Now you just press on the coin return button and it adds a credit. Then you can press the start button and it starts a game. This is actually a rather fun game from the era. It has simple rules, but they make sense and everything flows well. Just like in the game of Eight Ball on a pool table, you need to get all of the solid color balls (or all of the stiped balls if playing player 2). Then you must get the 8 ball. This is one of the first games with "kickback" which is a way the game saves the ball when draining on the left outlane, if you have lit that feature by hitting the proper target first. If you have a diner, or 50s themed rec room in your house, I think Eight Ball is the best pinball machine you can possibly have in that rec room. Although it was built in 1978, it is themed after Happy Days, which was set in the 1950s. The game also uses mechanical bell sounds for all the scoring, rather than electronic beeps and bloops, so it sounds just like a 1950s pinball machine. CONDITION and RATINGS for THIS SPECIFIC MACHINE: This cosmetic condition of this Eight Ball is average. I would definitely call this "player's condition." Whatever that means to you. To me, it means that it has some wear, nothing is perfect on it, but it plays great and is complete and everything is working correctly. There are flaws here and there, but overall it is OK. And the flaws are merely cosmetic, and don't affect the play. That said, I would say that this game is a little rougher than most I have sold on eBay. I took a bunch of extra pictures of the playfield so you can see what I mean. At the top of the playfield, you can see some stain that look like the very top of the playfield got wet or had something spill on it, that made a little stain. Also, there are other areas around the playfield where the paint has worn off. Again, this does not affect play - the game still plays wonderfully. But it does affect the game cosmetically. I tried to take plenty of pictures so you can assess the condition well. In my opinion, the cabinet is in good condition without major flaws. The backglass is also in excellent condition with very little flaking...it is just about flawless. The playfield plastics are really nice - I don't see any flaws with them. Numeric Ratings: BACKGLASS: 9/10 PLAYFIELD: 4/10 PLAYFIELD PLASTICS: 9/10 COIN DOOR: 5/10 CABINET: 7/10 STANDARD GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF PINBALL SHOPPING: When we shop a pinball machine, here is what that includes: 1) Removed most everything from the playfield 2) Clean, wax, and polish entire playing surface 3) Replace all above-playfield light bulbs with new LED bulbs 4) Replace all below-playfield light bulbs with new LED matching colored bulbs 5) Replace all rubbers with new ones 6) Re-install all above playfield plastics and hardware after thorough cleaning 7) Make sure all features of pinball are working properly 8) Scrub, clean, and touch up cabinet to the best of our limited ability 9) Install new ball(s) There are probably a few other things we do, but that's the gist of it. LOCATION: This game is located in sunny, beautiful downtown McLean, IL 61754.
