Let it fall where it falls. 🍂 An old temple path in Japan in late autumn, lined with ginkgo trees at their brightest. The canopy is solid yellow, the earth path underneath is buried in fallen leaves the same color, and a wandering ronin sits on a mossy stone at the edge of it, hat and sword set down beside him, eyes closed, face turned to the light. Leaves are still coming down around him. He isn't catching any of them. This piece is inspired by "KŌYŌ" (黄葉) — leaves turning yellow. The ginkgo is known for letting go all at once: a single cold night, and by morning the whole tree is on the ground. It doesn't thin out slowly. It doesn't keep a few back. When it's time, it lets everything fall, and the path is brighter for it. Shakuhachi drifts the way a leaf does — unhurried, turning a little, in no rush to land. Koto settles the way light does on gold: soft, warm, asking nothing. Nothing here builds toward anything, because nothing here is trying to hold on.
