The Porch Light's On (Heartfelt Story)

A song that tells a heartfelt story, evoking deep emotions and connection. Lyrics: Your blue coat still hangs by the kitchen door One sleeve turned inside out like before Dad keeps your mug on the second shelf Says he just likes it there for himself Then Tuesday brought your name across his phone He read it twice before he said hello Come home, the porch light’s on for you The house has kept your place, the old chair too No need to tell us where you’ve been No need to tell us where you’ve been Just let the screen door close again We’ll make some tea, we’ll take it slow There’s nothing you must prove or owe Come home, come home We’ve missed you more than words can hold You came with rain caught in your hair A paper bag and a careful stare Dad stood up, then forgot what to do So he asked if you were hungry, like he used to You laughed, and something in the room let go He reached for you; you met him halfway home Come home, the porch light’s on for you The house has kept your place, the old chair too No need to tell us where you’ve been Just let the screen door close again We’ll make some tea, we’ll take it slow There’s nothing you must prove or owe Come home, come home We’ve missed you more than words can hold You don’t have to mend it all tonight Some things heal by sitting side by side Your old blue coat can wait another day The kettle sings; there’s room for what you say You’re home, the porch light’s warm and true The house has kept a place that belongs to you No need to find the perfect words We understand the quiet first We’ll make some tea, we’ll take it slow And let the years unclench their hold You’re home, you’re home We’ve missed you more than words can hold Your blue coat hangs beside the door This time, you’re here to wear it once more
