The Tier V American heavy cruiser Pensacola (often nicknamed "Glass Cannon" or "Pepsi-Can") is armed with ten massive 203 mm guns, giving it some of the most devastating broadside fire of any cruiser at its tier. However, it trades survivability for firepower—its thin armor profile makes it highly vulnerable to return fire if caught out of position. Played correctly, it is a high-skill, match-deciding warship capable of wiping enemy cruisers off the map in a single salvo.
How to Play Pensacola - Top the Leaderboards & Farm Citadels:
1. Exploit American Heavy AP (Armor-Piercing)
*Improved Bounce Angles: Pensacola’s 203 mm AP shells feature enhanced heavy-cruiser bounce angles. This means you can penetrate and citadel target cruisers even when they are angled moderately away from you.
*Where to Aim for Citadels:Cruisers: Aim precisely at or slightly above the waterline directly beneath their smokestacks or main gun turrets.
*Battleships: If a Tier IV or V battleship presents a flat broadside at close-to-medium range, aim for the upper armor belt just above the main waterline armor. Your 203 mm AP will slice right through for massive chunk damage and occasional citadels.
2. Master Positioning: Island Hugging & Kiting
*Use Terrain as Armor: Never sail into open water early in the match. Park behind islands to shield your fragile hull while firing over cover using your high, arcing shells.
*Pre-Turn Your Turrets: Pensacola has exceptionally slow turret traverse speed. Plan where you want to shoot 20–30 seconds in advance and point your guns in that direction before unmasking from cover. *
Open-Water Kiting: If forced into the open, stay at maximum range, turn your stern (rear) toward the enemy, and kite away while weaving back and forth between reloads.
3. Survival and Target Prioritization*
*Never Show Broadside: Showing broadside in a Pensacola to any battleship (or heavy cruiser) will result in an instant trip back to the port. Always remain angled or strictly bow-in to enemy threats.
*Kill Order for Top Team Score:
1. Broadside Cruisers: Priority #1. You can delete them in 1–2 salvos, farming easy Citadels, Devastating Strikes, and massive XP
2. Destroyers: Use High Explosive (HE) shells to flush out spotted destroyers at close-to-medium ranges.
3. Battleships: Use HE to set fires at long range when they are angled; switch to AP as soon as they turn broadside.
Commander: Victor F. Einstein (for gun traverse speed, shell grouping, dispersion, and AP penetration bonuses ) or Norman Scott (for shell grouping, dispersion, and AP penetration bonuses).
Inspirations for Victor F. Einstein: (Francesco Membelli and Charles Madden.)
Inspirations for Norman Scott: (Scharnhorst and Nikolay Kuznertsov).
