Determining Student Job Readiness: Connecting Classroom Success to Workplace Success How do we know when a student is truly ready to transition from the classroom to an internship or employment? This HCC VAST Academy faculty training explores how everyday classroom behaviors can provide valuable evidence of a student’s workplace readiness. Academic success is important, but being a good student does not automatically mean a student is ready for the expectations of an employer. In this training, faculty and staff will learn how to recognize the transferable skills that connect classroom performance to workplace success, including: • Attendance and punctuality • Reliability and follow-through • Professional communication • Following directions • Teamwork and collaboration • Problem solving • Independence and self-management • Accepting supervision and constructive feedback • Accountability and professionalism • Initiative and motivation The training also introduces the VAST Internship Staff Recommendation Form and Job Readiness Scorecard, which provide faculty and staff with a structured way to document observations and make evidence-based internship recommendations.
