Scramble For Dinner! - West Dyer & Dyer Mtn, CO August 5, 2026 Took the Dyer Amphitheatre from Iowa Gulch a little after 4 PM. We wanted to get some scrambling in for dinner. This route has class 3, 4, & 5 options for ridge direct on Dyer Mountain's West Ridge. We jaunted up to the saddle and decided to snag West Dyer as a little excursion. I have done Dyer's West Ridge before, so we went in pretty blind and on a whim. We scrambled around for ridge direct for most of the hike. There's a couple class 4 down climbs that are a little committing. Evan took a rock to the finger about 3/4 of the way through the hike and we backed off most of the scrambling after that. Skipped the false summit this go around and ran down Dyer's East slopes into Iowa Gulch and regained the road. We jogged back to the car from there and caught the rest of the sunset on the drive back. This is a great scramble, but the rock and holds are loose in spots, so check em and play it safe.
