Hello there my artsy friends. Welcome back to the studio as we take a look at Master's Touch watercolor pencils and their qualities. I decided to pick this pencil set up after having a chance to work with the Master's Touch watercolor paints for awhile. As far as affordable craft brands go, they are pretty good. So I figured I would try out and review all products in the Master's Touch line to share with my viewers.
This is the complete 48 color range they offer in their watercolor pencil line. The pencils are easy to find and preform as well as most, if not better, then other pencils in the same price range. Throughout the video I try to cover all the information I can that would provide the viewer with as the information needed to make an informed decision based on price, quality, and performance.
Pros:
Works well as watercolor or color pencil
Pigment dissolve well in water
Very sturdy storage tin
Color names printed on back and inside of tin
No huge color shift from wet to dry
Decent student grade of product for price
VERY AFFORDABLE
Layer/Glaze on top of previous layers well
Color blend well both wet and dry
Leads do not break easily at all
Little to no smudging
Sharpen well in most pencil sharpeners
Work well on most water media paper types (Sketchbook, mixed media, watercolor)
Semi Transparent colors
Cons:
Varnish on pencils not finished smoothly
Pencil tray a little weak
No lightfast information for pencils
Color on barrels do not match well with lead (I suggest that you swatch the pencils)
No color names on barrels
Require several layers for really deep color depth
Colors will lift if using to much water at one time
Some colors look really close to each other
Overall, this is a pretty decent set of watercolor pencils. When you look at the fact that you can get the complete color range at once for half of the list price, you can't really go wrong. The pencils quality is better than most pencils I have used in the same price range. I would recommend the pencils for beginner painters, or for someone using watercolor pencils for the first time. Although, they are a long way from professional grade, I believe they are a nice fit for hobbyist, card-makers, sketchbook art and art journalist of any level. I just wouldn't use them on anything I was doing in a commission manner, or that I was going to be exposing to light for extended period of times. I am not saying you can't hang the painting done with these pencils. I am just saying don't expect the painting to last 100+ years.
