A few months ago you could live in Kiev and the war felt far away. Now residents are posting that life is no longer fun, rents are collapsing in the capital and spiking in Lviv, and apartment listings advertise proximity to bomb shelters. Russia warned the embassies to leave back in May. It's now backing that warning up, and Peter Erickson thinks the government itself may eventually relocate west. The question is whether Lviv would be any safer once Russia's satellite constellation is fully deployed next year.
Charlie and Peter break down the daytime strike on Kiev's main Dnieper bridge, the new cable-cutting "whiskered" drone that carried it out, and whether the goal is logistics or a message to civilians. They talk through what Russia actually wants in Ukraine, from the four oblasts to Novorossiya and the historical claim on Kiev, and why collapse in war looks like a rotting tree: it stands for years, then goes all at once.
Then the conversation turns to the ending nobody wants to say out loud. Zelensky is boxed in by the West and by the Azov hardliners, so he can't make a deal. Could a Banderite junta? Peter argues that, like Nixon going to China, only Zaluzhny has the credibility to pull it off, if Moscow can stomach it. Charlie makes the case that Russia will have to offer the nationalists a way out, because the alternative is a terrorist rump state and a war that never ends.
