Can’t sleep because trying to sleep is making you more awake?
Maybe you’ve already checked the clock again. Maybe you’re calculating how many hours of sleep are left, wondering whether you feel sleepy yet, or checking again and again: Is this working?
When falling asleep starts to feel urgent, sleep can begin to feel like another task you have to complete.
This guided sleep session takes that task away.
Tonight we use a technique called paradoxical intention. Instead of trying harder to fall asleep, you gently reverse the goal: for a little while, you allow yourself to stay awake.
You do not need to make sleep happen.
You do not need to check whether you are relaxed enough.
You do not need to watch for the exact moment sleep begins.
Being awake is the practice.
Get comfortable in your normal sleep position and let your eyes remain softly open for as long as they naturally want to. No staring. No forcing. No counting. No special breathing. No effort to clear your mind.
If you are still awake, nothing has gone wrong.
This session is especially for nights when you are lying in bed trying harder and harder to sleep, watching the clock, calculating tomorrow’s sleep loss, or becoming more alert because you keep checking whether sleep is finally happening.
The practice gradually gives you less and less to do. As the session continues, the guidance becomes quieter and less important until the voice disappears completely and only the rain remains.
You don’t need to watch the screen. Put your phone down, get comfortable, and simply listen.

ABOUT THE METHOD
Paradoxical intention reverses the usual goal of trying to fall asleep.
Instead of repeatedly monitoring whether sleep is coming, the practice allows wakefulness for a while. The aim is to reduce the effort, checking and performance pressure that can build up when falling asleep starts to feel like something you have to achieve.
It is not about forcing yourself to stay awake or fighting sleep. If your eyes naturally want to close, you can let them close. There is nothing to prove and no result you need to produce.
