Noordpool Orkest A jazz vocalist with a baseball cap, just as influenced by hip hop and R&B as by jazz classics. You will not find them much more idiosyncratic than New York singer José James in the jazz world. James made a beautiful, sensitive tribute to Billie Holiday, but also the modern, almost futuristic synthesizer record Love In A Time Of Madness and an intimate album with the Belgian pianist Jeff Neve. The albums are totally different, but all form a beautiful part of James' impressive broad oeuvre. This year he will perform at the festival with the 42-strong North Pole Orchestra, which played with artists such as Nynke Laverman, Eric Vloeimans and Waylon. With James they perform songs from Bill Withers, the American soul singer who became famous with evergreens such as Ain't No Sunshine, Lovely Day and Lean On Me.
