Smugglers’ Notch at Dusk | Motorcycle Ride on Vermont Route 108 | Jeffersonville to Stowe, VT

Come along for a motorcycle ride up and down Smugglers’ Notch on Vermont Route 108 as daylight starts to fade. I’m approaching from Jeffersonville, Vermont, where Route 108 starts out smooth and relaxed before tightening dramatically as it enters the Notch. Once inside, the road becomes narrow and technical, winding between massive rock ledges with sharp turns, tight hairpins, and very little room to spare. I sped up portions of the approach so we could get to the good stuff—the actual climb through Smugglers’ Notch—while still giving you a feel for the route leading into it. I’ve ridden this road on bright, picture-perfect days before, but dusk gives the Notch an entirely different atmosphere. The fading light, trees, cliffs, and narrow roadway make this one of those rides that feels completely different depending on when you experience it.
