Tunnel boring machine Bella breakthrough

Digging of the West Gate Tunnels is now complete. Our second tunnel boring machine Bella has finished her journey digging the longer outbound tunnel that connects drivers heading west from the tunnel to the West Gate Freeway. Almost 7km worth of tunnel were dug by the two largest tunnel boring machines in the southern hemisphere. Work continues on fitting out the tunnel with the road you will drive on, emergency access points and more.
