Most Forsyth County families never think twice about getting their kids dressed in the morning. For a lot of kids here, it's one of the hardest parts of the day. Cindy Morris is the founder and executive director of Confident Threads, a nonprofit that clothes children in need and children in foster care, birth to 18, head to toe. Twice a year, each child gets seven outfits, seven pairs of socks, seven pairs of underwear, two pairs of pajamas, a brand new pair of athletic shoes, and a coat or swimsuit depending on the season. All brand new, in the brands, colors, and characters the kids actually ask for. And the tags stay on, because for a kid who has never had new clothes, cutting the tag off is a big deal. Cindy sits down with Ben Musgrove and Spenser Bettis to talk about how a stay-at-home mom and longtime missions leader at Midway UMC turned a consignment sale project into a 501(c)(3) that filled 1,026 clothing requests in 2025. Every school social worker in Forsyth County has sent her a request in the last 12 months. She talks about why the need is growing in one of Georgia's most affluent counties, how her team hunts sales at Ross, TJ Maxx, and Academy to stretch every dollar, and why a $10 monthly donation covers underwear for six kids for a year. Want to help? The first Confident Threads Golf Tournament is Monday, November 2 at Windermere Golf Club. Foursomes and sponsorships are still available. Socktober runs through October 31. Drop off brand new athletic socks for youth and teens at Marie's Deli, Cherry Street, or in Dawsonville at the Dawson County Library, Dawson City Hall, and Papa's Place. Become a monthly donor, volunteer two hours a week, or sign your kids up for Kids Quest.
