Alaska: The Alaska Railroad & the White Pass | Scenic Rail Journey Ep 10

Travel far, see the world. In Episode 10 of TradingRight · The Scenic Rail Journey we head to Alaska to ride the Alaska Railroad and the White Pass & Yukon Route, through glaciers, fjords, wilderness and the history of the gold rush. Twenty-one stops: from Anchorage, a city grown from a railway camp, past the ghost forest of Portage, through the tunnel trains share with cars to Whittier, off at the Spencer Glacier Whistle Stop that only trains can reach, to the port of Seward and Kenai Fjords; then north on the Denali Star through the Mat-Su valleys to the climbers' village of Talkeetna, the Hurricane Turn flag-stop train, the Hurricane Gulch Bridge and Broad Pass, the highest point of the line, to Denali, North America's highest peak, and its national park, through the Nenana canyon and by Nenana, where the golden spike was driven, to Fairbanks under the northern lights; and finally from Skagway, gateway to the Klondike, by narrow-gauge train over the White Pass, past Dead Horse Gulch to Lake Bennett and Carcross in the Yukon. Four chapters explore the history of Alaska's railways, their engineering, life on board and how to ride, and the food along the line.
