In this video, we demonstrate a craniosacral-informed technique for correcting a unilateral restriction of motion in the maxilla — using external support combined with a precise intranasal contact point.
We walk through:
• Positioning the patient prone with the head rotated to the treatment side
• Supporting the maxilla externally while establishing a gloved, lubricated intranasal contact
• Guiding the entry path parallel to the nasal septum and palate arch
• Using cranial weight to engage the maxilla's existing distortion
• A slow, sustained pull to release the restriction — with membrane tension, not force, guiding the work
This technique is also indicated for mechanical trauma of the viscerocranium, and is typically followed by re-treating the maxilla–skull base–neck relationship, the atlanto-occipital connection, and lumbosacral decompression for a stable result.
This technique involves close intranasal contact and requires precise, careful handling. It is part of our ongoing series on somatic bodywork and craniosacral-informed practice at Awaken Zen Spa. It's intended for educational purposes for bodywork practitioners, massage therapists, and those interested in subtle fascial and osseous work.
