Filmed at Clacton Pier on May 15th 2019. Vienna Cogan was released by Cogan (just in case the name didn't give it away!) in the 1990s and is still being made at the time of writing. Over the years, she has been made in both black and white with either molded fibreglass or real horse hair for her tail. She wears a beautifully ornate bridle, saddle and decorative blanket, all dripping with "jewels" (which sadly tended to fall out over time) and has an equally decorative coin slot, shaped as an organ with a small monkey perched on top. Vienna Cogan was never as popular in the UK as other Cogan rides such as the Pony Express and Ranch Cogan Stagecoach, but there were two on Clacton Pier since I was very small. These I lovingly nicknamed "Romeo" and "Juliet" and would ride every summer. This is "Juliet". The poor things have got more and more worn out over the years...and there was no sign of "Romeo" on my May 2019 visit. Unfortunately, her soundboard was not working properly, as you can hear. But you can hear the lovely music they both originally played on my video of "Romeo" taken a couple of years ago (see end screen). I am currently working on a website about coin operated rides, particularly those made (or at least commonly distributed) in the UK during the 1950s-90s. If anybody has old photos/video footage that they wouldn't mind sharing with me, please e-mail me at coinoperatedrides@hotmail.com or leave a comment below. I would be eternally grateful.
