A couple of years ago, I had almost no interest in revisiting the Nintendo 64. I assumed most of its games simply hadn't aged well. Then I bought an Analogue 3D, a ModRetro M64, and way too many N64 games, and completely changed my mind. After spending the last several months diving back into the N64 library, I've realized there's a lot more keeping these games enjoyable today than nostalgia. In this video, I break down six reasons why I think the N64 is still incredible in 2026, from its pick-up-and-play game design and surprisingly rewarding difficulty to couch multiplayer and the new hardware making the console easier than ever to revisit. I also address some of the common criticisms of the N64 and why I think the tradeoffs Nintendo made during the transition to 3D deserve a little more context. Do you think the N64 still holds up today?
