Backcountry Camping at Spectrum lake in Rain

This was a solo hiking and camping adventure to Spectrum Lake in Monashee Provincial Park, British Columbia, Canada. 🏕️🌲🌧️ I packed my camping gear and headed into the backcountry for an overnight adventure at Spectrum Lake. The plan was to enjoy the lake, wilderness and surrounding mountains — but there was one constant throughout the entire trip: RAIN. 🌧️ It rained throughout the adventure, from the hike into the lake to setting up camp and spending the night. Wet trails, misty forests, rain on the tent and the peaceful sound of water made this a completely different kind of camping experience. 🥾 SPECTRUM LAKE HIKE The hike starts at the Spectrum Creek trailhead in Monashee Provincial Park. According to BC Parks, the Spectrum Lake trail is approximately 6 km one way and takes around 2 hours, passing through forest, wet areas, streams, bridges and boardwalk sections. AllTrails lists its Spectrum Lake route at approximately 11.6 km (7.2 mi) with around 454 m (1,489 ft) of elevation gain, with an estimated hiking time of about 3 hours 37 minutes. Route distances can vary depending on the exact route recorded. This was a solo hike, carrying all my camping equipment into the backcountry. 📍 LOCATION Spectrum Lake Monashee Provincial Park Near Cherryville, British Columbia, Canada Spectrum Lake is located in the Monashee Mountains and is surrounded by beautiful forest and mountain wilderness. 🚙 HOW TO GET THERE The usual access is from the Cherryville / Highway 6 area, continuing toward Sugar Lake Road and then onto the forest service road leading toward Spectrum Creek and the Spectrum Lake trailhead. The final approach is a remote forest service road, so conditions can vary significantly. ⚠️ Important: BC Parks warns about active logging on Spectrum Creek Forest Service Road, including logging trucks and rough sections of road. Some sections may not be suitable for low-clearance vehicles. Always check current BC Parks conditions and road advisories before driving to the trailhead. 🏕️ CAMPING AT SPECTRUM LAKE Spectrum Lake is a backcountry camping destination with basic facilities, including: • Backcountry tent sites • Pit toilets • Bear caches • Beautiful lakeside wilderness surroundings A backcountry camping permit is required. Camping fees and regulations can change, so check the current BC Parks information before your trip rather than relying solely on information in this video. 🌧️ CAMPING IN THE RAIN This wasn’t just a short rain shower. It rained throughout the entire adventure. The hike was wet, the campsite was wet, and the rain continued into the evening and overnight. That made setting up camp and keeping everything dry part of the challenge. But it also created an incredible atmosphere — mist over the forest, wet trails, the lake surrounded by clouds and mountains, and the constant sound of rain hitting the tent.
