Michael Flatley: The Full Life Story

Michael Flatley was born in Chicago in nineteen fifty-eight to parents who had emigrated from Ireland. This video follows his life from the family garage on the South Side, where he practiced for hours as a boy, to the world stage. We cover how he became the first American to win the world championship in Irish dance in nineteen seventy-five, his years touring with The Chieftains, the Guinness record for twenty-eight taps in one second, and the seven-minute interval act at Eurovision that became Riverdance. We also look at why he left Riverdance in nineteen ninety-five, how he created Lord of the Dance, and the life he built afterward at Castlehyde in County Cork. The video also covers his wife, dancer Niamh O'Brien, who was fifty-two when The Irish Times reported her death on the fifth of October, two thousand twenty-six. Sources used for this video include The Irish Times, the Irish Examiner, Wikipedia, Britannica, Mental Floss and The Christian Science Monitor. Where accounts differ, the video says so.
