In Part 2, we follow the story from the founding of the State of Israel in 1948 to today: who immigrated, where they came from, and why they came.
We cover the mass immigration of the late 1940s and early 1950s, when Jewish communities arrived from Europe and from across the Middle East and North Africa, the immigration from Eastern Europe and North Africa in the following decades, the Soviet Jewry movement and the great wave from the former Soviet Union in the 1990s, the immigration from Ethiopia, and aliyah in recent years.
You’ll also see how the Law of Return shaped who could come, and why so many families today still qualify for Israeli citizenship through a parent, grandparent or spouse, even if they never thought of themselves as eligible.
