YIMKHIUNG TRIBAL COUNCIL ORGANISES RALLY DEMANDING UPGRADATION OF SHAMATOR & PUNGRO TO DISTRICT HQ

The Yimkhiung Community under the aegis of Yimkhiung Tribal Council organised a peaceful rally demanding for upgradation of Shamator ADC to full fledged district headquarter. The rally was held on Thursday at public ground Shamator and public ground Pungro. The Yimkhiung community in general have been demanding a separate district headquarter since 2003 to which the government paid no heed to the cries and pleas made by the community. In Pungro, a brief program was conducted at public ground where speakers from different organisations expressed strong resentment against the state government over not fulfilling the aspirations of Yimkhiung people to live under one district administrative headquarter. Thousands of Yimkhiung public clad in traditional attire holding placards under Pungro sub-division participated in the rally and submitted the representation to the district administration, Pungro. In Shamator, a brief program was held where the vice president of YTC, R. Kiuji led the program where a concluding remark was given by the president YTC .
