Hello everyone,
Today I am here with a challenging but memorable train journey from Bahawalpur to Nawabshah Junction on 12DN Hazara Express, covering almost 12 hours through the intense summer heat of South Punjab and Sindh.
The journey started early in the morning from Bahawalpur, when the weather was still pleasant and the station had a calm morning atmosphere. I explored the surroundings for a while and then waited for Hazara Express to arrive.
When the train finally reached Bahawalpur, getting to my reserved seat was itself a little adventure because the train was extremely crowded. Thankfully, I managed to reach my seat and settle down. During the journey, I also met a friendly elderly passenger who shared some wonderful stories from his life, including his memories of traveling on steam locomotives. Conversations like these are one of the things that make train journeys so special.
As Hazara Express moved through South Punjab, we passed Khanpur, Rahim Yar Khan and Sadiqabad. The pleasant morning gradually turned into an extremely hot afternoon, and at one point it felt like the temperature had reached around 48°C.
After entering Sindh, the train continued through Daharki, Mirpur Mathelo, Ghotki and Pano Aqil Cantt before reaching Rohri Junction. Rohri was a completely different scene. The station was undergoing renovation, with construction work and activity everywhere, making the platform look quite chaotic. I managed to have a fresh omelette there before continuing the journey.
Thankfully, as evening approached, the heat became a little more bearable. The train passed Gambat, Mahrabpur, Bhiria Road and Padidan before finally reaching Nawabshah Junction at around 8 PM.
It was almost a 12-hour journey on a train with numerous stops, and although the extreme heat made it challenging, the journey was still full of memorable moments, interesting people, railway scenes and the simple joy of watching Pakistan pass by from a train window.
Sometimes, the difficult journeys become the ones we remember the longest.
So sit back, relax and join me on this long and hot journey aboard 12DN Hazara Express from Bahawalpur to Nawabshah.
