Looking for yacon apple planting materials in Kenya? In this video, AgriConnect Africa visits farmer Steven Gatimo in Muthiga village, near Salgaa in Nakuru County, who is producing and selling yacon planting materials to farmers interested in growing this emerging crop.
Yacon, sometimes known as the “Peruvian ground apple,” is a unique crop whose sweet, crisp edible tubers grow underground. Steven has three acres under yacon and has also developed a business supplying planting materials to other farmers.
He sells yacon clones at Sh100 each, while one mature plant can produce up to 30 clones. But how are these planting materials produced, and what should farmers look for when starting a yacon farm?
