Questions are mounting over the role of the local BJP MLA whose family owns and operates several PGs in the same area according to residents and eyewitnesses. Barkha Dutt speaks to Bhupendra and Pushpa, the family of Arpit Jaj, a student of Atma rama Sanatan Dharma College (ARS) who was crushed to death. The father is a taxi driver, the mother runs a small parlor from home. They struggled, took loans to send their boy to study in a delhi college- yesterday they cremated him. I Meet the parents of 18 year old Arpit Jaj and listening to them you can’t but sob your heart out thinking of him dying under a giant slab of cement as a death trap of a building fell on him. “Gareeb ko Kaun poochta hai” - Arpit’s mother asks me. The family lives in Dewas in Madhya Pradesh and struggled to pay the 16,ooo monthly rent the PG owners demanded. And yet, in this moment of unspeakable grief, they opted to donate their son’s eyes. “Maybe another child can see the world he wanted to see”. Arpit's family does not believe anyone signfiicant will be punished. "This is murder" the parents say as opposition targets the government and the MCD over response to the deaths. A local BJP MLA Anil Sharma is also in the fiiring line after residents of Satya Niketan say he owns and operates local PGs through his relatives We are fund raising for the family so they can educate Arpit’s sister and also repay the loans they took to send him to Delhi.
