New York Jazz – Saturday, September 28, 1957 – Golden Dixieland Trumpet at the Voyager Room 🔥    • New York Jazz – Saturday, September 28, 19...   Saturday night, September 28, 1957 — West 57th Street, Manhattan. Inside the Henry Hudson Hotel, the Voyager Room is a vast, high-ceilinged hall, and the brightest sound in it belongs to Bobby Hackett. His horn rises clear and silver above the band, lyrical even at full volume. Around him: Ernie Caceres on baritone sax and clarinet, Buzzy Drootin on drums, and John Dengler on tuba, the rare low brass that gives the whole room an old-time bounce. This is Early Americana played by masters: dixieland and swing, warm and unhurried, built for a Saturday crowd in its best fall clothes. The same week, "West Side Story" had just opened on Broadway a few blocks east, and Dizzy Gillespie's big band was shaking Birdland. The city was electric. 🎷 Ten original instrumental tracks take you from doors-open to closing time. 🎨 Watercolor-and-ink illustration · New York Jazz & Ink Retrospective #NewYorkJazz #Dixieland #1957 #JazzHistory #VintageNYC
