Forgiveness is often misunderstood. It does not mean: The harm was acceptable Trust must return immediately A boundary should disappear We must reconcile with someone unsafe Pain should heal on command Day 93 of 365 Days of DhammaMusic explores forgiveness as freedom from continuing hatred. We can remember clearly, seek accountability, protect ourselves, and still recognize that carrying resentment forever keeps the original wound active within us. Forgiveness may be gradual. It cannot always be forced today. The first practice may be: “I will not add more hatred to this pain.” Lay down the stone when your heart is ready—not because the harm was right, but because your life deserves freedom from carrying it forever.
