In Berhampur, cauliflower and capsicum cost ₹100 per kg, beans ₹140 and pointed gourd ₹60, while tomatoes, brinjal and okra are priced above ₹50. Similar conditions prevail in Koraput, Bhadrak, Kendrapada and Bhubaneswar, where many vegetables are selling above ₹60 per kg. Consumers say even ₹500 is no longer enough to fill a shopping bag. Traders attribute the price rise to continuous rain, flood damage, reduced vegetable production and higher transportation costs. With Kartik month approaching and demand for vegetables expected to increase as many households avoid non-vegetarian food, consumers fear prices may rise further.
