Heartland Wheelers, 102 km Tour of Longford ‘26

A fantastic 102km sportive through the quiet roads and beautiful countryside of Longford, organised by Heartlands Wheelers Cycling Club in aid of Longford Hospice. Starting and finishing at Slashers GAA Club, the route featured approximately 960m of climbing, taking in picturesque farmhouses, churches, pubs and some of Longford’s finest cycling roads. A highlight of the route was passing the historic Clonfin 1921 Ambush Site. The event was exceptionally well organised, with excellent food and fantastic support from the Heartlands Wheelers marshals, Civil Defence Volunteers and An Garda Síochána. The weather stayed dry for the first 53km before showery rain arrived for the remainder of the ride — but it certainly didn’t dampen the atmosphere! Overall, a brilliant event and one I would highly recommend.
