Carter Vintage Guitars is not just one of the most iconic guitar stores in Nashville.
It is one of the places where music history feels alive.
Inside Carter Vintage, you are surrounded by rare vintage guitars, old Martins, Gibsons, Fenders, Gretsches, historic acoustic guitars, collectible electric guitars, handwritten stories, legendary instruments, and the kind of guitar culture that makes Nashville feel like Nashville.
In this video, I get a private tour of Carter Vintage Guitars with Ben Montague, owner of Carter Vintage Guitars and Norman’s Rare Guitars.
Ben takes me through the main showroom, the wall of fame, the rare instruments, the consignment model, the repair shop, the case room, and the behind-the-scenes process of handling thousands of guitars inside one of the most beloved guitar stores in the world.
This is the same kind of place where artists like Vince Gill, David Crosby, Marcus King, Billy Gibbons, Sheryl Crow, Jason Isbell, Hozier, Post Malone, James Taylor, Sturgill Simpson, Steve Earle, Tommy Emmanuel, and so many others have walked in, picked up guitars, and connected with instruments that already had a life before they ever touched them.
But this tour is about more than famous musicians and rare guitars.
It is about the history of Carter Vintage, the responsibility of carrying on a Nashville institution, the magic of vintage instruments, and why a guitar that has been played, loved, toured with, recorded with, and passed down carries something no new guitar can fake.
For me, Carter Vintage has always been tied to family, music, and memory. I grew up around guitars with my dad, and now I get to bring my son into that same world.
If you love vintage guitars, Nashville music history, rare instruments, guitar collecting, old Gibson guitars, Fender guitars, Martin acoustics, Norman’s Rare Guitars, Carter Vintage Guitars, or the stories behind the instruments that shaped music, this episode is for you.
