This chapter has the very unique feature of physically splitting the army in 3 groups with no way for them to meet up apart from warping staves. It wouldn't be a big deal if not for the fact that one group must defeat the boss and seize, while another one must open the Kia Staff chest after escorting one of the boy who will open the locked door at the end of turn 5, but only one of my unit can fight.
The "escorting" part was the most annoying due to the Dark Mages AI. They will always if possible capture a child, then try to escape. If there is no child in range but one of my unit, they will attack. If they captured a child but the path to the escape tile is blocked, they will attack one of my unit instead. Without any action from me, the Dark Mages are spaced well enough so that they will always one way or another block the path from the children's room to the Kia Staff door.
My solution was to create a traffic jam at the entrance of the children's room by physically block the path with children, as the Dark Mages will never attack them. With no children in capture range, they will go to the next best option, attacking my unit of choice from behind the wall, so that my unit of choice can also take care of the central room.
The most obvious choice is Galzus, as he is recruited in the central room, has the stats to get rid of any generic enemy, and is one of the ~6 base stats units who can defeat Raydrick "reasonably fast". Then there is the funny choice Nanna, who is borderline more reliable than Galzus to clear this chapter, despite not having a movement star. After 2 level-ups, she will have enough AS to double the Dark Mages with her Earth Sword, and with a combination of Pure Water and Dark Mages with lower end MAG, she can reliably ORKO all of them without needing to dodge anything. She also doesn't have to deal with the Sleep and Berserk Dark Mages targetting her. And of course she can use the Bragi Sword to easily deal with Raydrick.
I must also talk a little about the east side of the map. All my units on this side must be captured on the same turn, else enemies who already captured one would attack instead on the next turn. The Sleep and Berserk Dark Mages were also annoying as they always target my highest HP unit available (apart from Leif), and Mareeta with her 28 HP was on the higher side. To delay them from targeting her before she recruited Galzus, I deployed as many high HP units as I could, and manipulated a 96% accuracy Berserk miss on turn 1, rather than using one of my Pure Water. Speaking of which, prior to this chapter, I only had 5 Pure Waters left despite a very strict management since the beginning of the game.
