I Remember When I Couldn’t Call Myself A Witch

I received a surprise parcel from someone very dear to me today. It contained my voice from the past—a young girl struggling to deconstruct the charismatic, evangelical christianity she was raised in and the purity culture that was part and parcel of that whole thing, struggling with her father’s cancer, and secretly researching Goddess information, paganism, and witchcraft—with deep guilt over it *cue the night terrors*. Making up my own little rituals and feeling guilty about them. Let’s just say I wasn’t hiding my proclivities as well as I thought.
