The ENTIRE History of Russia in 13 Minutes

Russia is the largest country on Earth, yet for most of its history almost none of its long coast was open all year. Its northern seas freeze, and its one warm sea opens only through straits that someone else holds. So why did its rulers spend almost five centuries fighting for open water, and why did they once sink their own fleet in their own harbour? This documentary explores the complete history of Russia, from Rus and Kiev, Rurik, Oleg and the baptism of Vladimir, Novgorod and the Hanseatic League, the Mongols and the rise of Muscovy, Ivan III and the stand on the Ugra, Ivan the Terrible, Kazan and the Livonian War, Arkhangelsk, Yermak and the conquest of Siberia, the Time of Troubles and the first Romanov tsar, to Peter the Great, Azov and the founding of St Petersburg, Catherine the Great, Crimea and Sevastopol, Napoleon's invasion of 1812 and the forged Testament of Peter the Great, the Crimean War, the emancipation of the serfs, the Circassians, Vladivostok and the Trans-Siberian Railway, Port Arthur and the Russo-Japanese War, Murmansk, the Russian Revolution, Lenin and Stalin, the Holodomor, the Siege of Leningrad and the Second World War, Sputnik and Yuri Gagarin, the collapse of the Soviet Union, the 1990s, Vladimir Putin, Crimea in 2014, the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and Russia today. Discover how ice and straits shaped Russian history, why so many of its harbours were won and lost, and where the idea of Russia's eternal hunger for warm-water ports really comes from. This documentary is based on historical sources and established historical research. Some visual scenes are illustrated with the help of AI to bring the story to life while remaining faithful to the historical record. #Russia #RussianHistory #RussianEmpire #KievanRus #Novgorod #Muscovy #IvanTheTerrible #PeterTheGreat #CatherineTheGreat #StPetersburg #Sevastopol #CrimeanWar #RussianRevolution #SovietUnion #Stalin #ColdWar #History #WorldHistory #HistoryDocumentary #Documentary
