M S Subbulakshmi - Rama Navamani Malai Special Programme, All India Radio, 1961

A special programme of All India Radio, Madras, titled "Rama Navamani Malai" featuring M S Subbulakshmi was broadcast in 1961. This programme featured nine composers/poets (representing nine gems) who have, over the centuries, sung the praises of one of the most iconic and beloved personalities in the Hindu Pantheon - Lord Rama of Ayodhya. The announcements preceding each song give a beautiful narrative, and are a tribute to the high production values once followed by All India Radio. Today (5th August, 2020) being the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the temple of Lord Rama at Ayodhya, this recording is shared here as a prayer to the Lord to lead us through these dark and difficult times.
