The sun reflects my shadow on the grass. A gentle breeze takes the clouds for a walk above me. White patches in the blue sky cast a perfect shadow on the earth. I brush my hair away from my mouth and breathe the spring air. Lucille is playing not far from me. Elegantly dressed, she looks like a little rag doll. She moves without a care among the flowers and the birds. Flying above our heads, we can almost touch them. But they'll never let themselves be taken. Tomorrow it will be harder to be happy. Meanwhile, the world turns. Someone later will offer her a hand. Someone will want to hurt her. Lucille barefoot will have to learn to dance. A skillful and light dance to avoid being devoured by the world. Her dinner will be the words of those who today love her. A meal she'll only realize she has eaten tomorrow. So small and graceful she'll reckon with her fate. A horizon heavy with rain will melt her like butter on bread under the sun. She'll love only once and be loved. Perhaps she'll understand life only after losing it. Tender will be her flesh. Tender will be her night. She'll have a name to repeat in vain. It will be a deafening silence. Every man has only one chance to love. Every man has a chance that lasts just once. Wherever, I must take you there Lucille.
